Spicy Mango Margarita

Here’s a delicious recipe for a spicy mango margarita that perfectly balances sweet, tart, and fiery flavours:

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Blanco tequila (silver tequila)
  • 1 – 1 ½ oz fresh lime juice (adjust to your taste)
  • ¾ oz mango puree (fresh or frozen)
  • ½ jalapeno, sliced (remove seeds for less spice)
  • ¾ oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • Tajin seasoning or chilli powder rim (optional)
  • Fresh mango wedge and lime wedge for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prep the rim (optional): If using Tajin or chilli powder rim, combine equal parts chilli powder or Tajin seasoning with salt on a small plate. Rub the rim of your margarita glass with a lime wedge and then dip it into the spice mixture.
  2. Muddle the jalapeno and mango: In a cocktail shaker, muddle the sliced jalapeno and a few pieces of mango together. Be careful not to over-muddle, as you don’t want the drink to be bitter.
  3. Add remaining ingredients and shake: Add the tequila, lime juice, mango puree, and orange liqueur to the shaker along with ice. Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds until chilled and well combined.
  4. Strain and serve: Strain the margarita into the prepared glass (with or without the spiced rim).
  5. Garnish (optional): Garnish your margarita with a fresh mango wedge and a lime wedge for an extra pop of flavour and colour.

Tips:

  • Adjust the spice level: This recipe uses half a jalapeno, but you can adjust the amount based on your preference. Remove the seeds from the jalapeno for a milder drink.
  • Fresh vs. frozen mango: Fresh mango adds a more vibrant flavour, but frozen mango works well too. If using frozen mango, you may need to adjust the amount of ice in your shaker.
  • Sweeter margarita? If you prefer a sweeter drink, add a splash of simple syrup to taste.
  • Spicy rim option: If you don’t have Tajin seasoning, you can create a similar rim using chilli powder mixed with salt and a few dashes of hot sauce.
